Eco-friendly home interior designs

Adopting India’s traditional methods of yoga, ayurvedic treatments, medicines and organic materials is in trend nowadays or we can say is the need of today’s world. Climate changes, increased pollution, lowered air quality and less greenery is a major concern now for the world. Though we have many technologies to have pure air to breathe and have a healthy life still it is not very efficient and has long-term effects. As today people spend 80% of their time in buildings whether it is in offices, schools, colleges or homes, why can’t we make our houses green by adopting eco-friendly home interior designs.

It appears to be a small change in itself but can have a huge impact on our lives. Nature has given us enormous resources and if our small change can save it from further suffering, it will only make our lives more sustainable. According to one of the surveys by TERI, it is estimated that if all the buildings in urban areas of India get transformed to green buildings, India can save up to 8,400 MW of power which can provide energy to 550,000 homes in India per year.

Going green is not a difficult task to do for nature’s sake and can be done by choosing sustainable architecture. It includes selecting sustainable site design, conservation of water by maximizing the use of renewable water, use of efficient lights to save electricity, maximum use of recycled materials, eco-friendly paints and wall materials etc. It is basically possible when energy consultants, architecture, electrical, plumbing, site engineer works as a team and every aspect of green building is discussed and executed.

This was the brief idea of why we should have eco-friendly buildings and for our homes, we can start with its interior. It is the easiest step towards going green and is most acceptable. So here are some tips for houses, apartments with small space and luxury homes to have eco-friendly interiors.

Walls with Natural Materials

1. Low VOC:

Walls are the most important part of the interior of a room as they consist of largest
part of it. One of the easiest ways to make walls eco-friendly is to paint them with 100% organic VOC free paint to improve the indoor air quality.

VOC is a volatile organic compound which are chemicals present in paints or polishing materials, carpets etc. and can cause long-term health problems like allergy, development problems in children, etc.
